For me it totally makes sense. 
if they confirm they are together, the rumors would be: they broke up, they are having a baby, they are getting married (they didnt even confirmed they are together and those rumors ALREADY started coming out. imagine what would be like if they confirmed it). so they just try to avoid these things… as you said, they are always seen together, they dont mind people know they are together, they just like to keep their lives private
